French Toast

French ToastThis French Toast recipe is very simple and a great way of using stale bread. A French Toast is good anytime during the year, but it is a typical Christmas dessert in Portugal.


  • 1 big loaf of sliced bread
  • 1 litre of milk
  • Sugar and powdered cinnamon
  • Oil to fry
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 6 beaten eggs
  • 1 lemon peel

How to make French Toast:

  • Start by putting the cinnamon stick, the lemon peel and the milk in a pan.
  • Boil these ingredients and then remove the lemon peel and the cinnamon stick.
  • Dip the slices of bread in the milk (after it cools) and then in the beaten eggs.
  • Fry them right after doing that. You shouldn’t fry the bread slices for too long.
  • Make sure you fry them just until they turn slightly brown on both sides.
  • Put the fried bread slices on absorbent paper to drain the oil.

Lastly, dip the slices in sugar and in cinnamon.
