Meat Bread Recipe

Meat-Bread-Recipe-zrMeat Bread Recipe is always a good choice for a meal or when we have many visitors at home. It’s easy to make and delicious!

Each region in Portugal has its own way of making this Meat Bread and you can really tell that they are all magnificent.


  • 2 eggs
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
    21.1 ounces (600 grams) flour
  • 1.41 ounces (40 grams) baker’s yeast
  • 2 decilitres of water
  • Salt to your taste
  • Olive oil to grease

Start by adding a little salt, olive oil and eggs to the flour. Knead everything very well and gradually add water until you get a smooth dough.

Cover the dough with a cloth and leave it leavening for at least 30 minutes. Meanwhile, grease a baking tray with olive oil.

Ingredients for the filling:

  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 bunch of parsley
  • 1 onion
  • 2.82 ounces (80 grams) smoked ham
  • 2.82 ounces (80 grams) ham
  • 4.2 ounces (120 grams) cooked turkey breast
  • Olive oil, salt, pepper, beaten egg and flour to your taste

Start by peeling and chopping the garlic, the onion and the parsley. Then, cut the smoked ham, the turkey and the ham into cubes.

Pour a little olive oil in the bottom of a frying pan, add the onion and the garlic and braise them a little. Then, add the meat and season the mix with salt and pepper.

Now that the filling is ready, cut the dough into two parts and spread them on a smooth surface powdered with flour.

Spread the filling on top of both parts of the dough and then roll them to get two rolls. When the rolls are done, twist them and roll one inside of the other.

Place the rolls in a baking tray, brush them with beaten egg and put them in the oven at 350ºF (180ºC) for about 35 minutes.
